According to reports, it was determined that celebrities and prominent world politicians had failed to make the $8 payment necessary to maintain their verification, the blue ticks on their Twitter profiles were deleted.

Sources had it that Twitter has a verification process in place, similar to many other social networking sites, to validate the legitimacy of accounts belonging to renowned persons, celebrities, and public figures. The verification badge, which is commonly represented by a blue tick, is a mark of authenticity and dependability to indicate the account belongs to a legitimate individual or group.

However, it has come to light that some of the biggest names in the music business lost their blue ticks on Twitter because they neglected to pay the $8 cost required to subscribe to the verification status.
