According to a report by Nigerian Tribune, on Tuesday April 28, 2026, there is fresh political tension within the Nigerian Senate as reports has emerged that Bola Tinubu may have identified some senators for automatic return tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawmakers reportedly include Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and others who are said to have played key roles in supporting the current administration since 2023, the development has raised questions, but there has been no official confirmation from the Presidency or the Senate.
The claim was made public by Nasir Idris during a meeting with political stakeholders in Kebbi State, he suggested that the listed senators earned the recognition due to their efforts in maintaining stability and cooperation between the legislative and executive arms of government.
Other names mentioned in the alleged list include Orji Uzor Kalu, Adetokunbo Abiru, Danjuma Goje and Idiat Adebule, they were described as lawmakers who helped ensure the smooth passage of key government policies.
Despite the claims, the Senate has remained silent, there was no response from its spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu or from the office of Bamidele, the ruling All Progressives Congress has also not issued any statement on the matter.
Meanwhile, the situation has become more complex in Abia State, where a leadership dispute has emerged within the APC, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, both claimed they have been given the authority to lead the party in the state.
Orji Uzor Kalu expressed appreciation to the president for the trust placed in him and pledged to work with party members to strengthen unity and prepare for the next elections, he said his focus would be on building a strong political structure that can deliver victory.
On his part, Benjamin Kalu stated that the president had directed that in states without APC governors, the highest-ranking elected official should take charge of party affairs, he also welcomed the responsibility and promised to lead efforts toward success in 2027.
