The Nigerian government, in collaboration with regional and international partners, has taken steps to address these security challenges.
Efforts include military operations, dialogue with militant groups, community engagement, and socioeconomic development initiatives.
However, the situation remains complex, and resolving these issues requires a multi- faceted approach that addresses the underlying causes of insecurity, promotes inclusive governance, and fosters socio- economic development across the country.
Since President Bola Tinubu took the oath of office, at least 78 Nigerians have died and 12 have been kidnapped in violent incidents around the nation. The occurrences took place in the Federal Capital Territory, Ogun, Kaduna, Rivers, Zamfara, and Zamfara, according to PUNCH.
Data from the Nigeria Security Tracker, a Council on Foreign Relations study, revealed this. In Rivers on May 29, four people were slain by gunmen, and two more were decapitated, according to the report.
In Zamfara, bandits murdered a vigilante leader and 24 other people on May 30. In addition, on May 30, two APC women leaders were abducted after attending the swearing- in ceremony for the governor of Kaduna.
In Kaduna, robbers murdered a man and took his wife, four children, and himself hostage on the same day. Additionally, on May 30 in Rivers villages, six people were slain by suspected cultists.
On May 31, two were kidnapped and three people were slain when masked gunmen stormed a farm in Ogun. On June 4, 2023, gunmen in Abuja abducted four people.
In Sokoto on Sunday, bandits slaughtered 37 people for failing to pay a tax.
Maj. Gen. Musa Danmadami, director of defense media operations at the defense headquarters, did not return his calls.
After PUNCH reporter texted him on his line, he still hadn’t replied.
Timothy Avele, a security expert, said the recent deaths and kidnappings in the nation were a call for the President to act quickly to handle the threat.
