Our correspondent visited the Federal Secretariat on Tuesday morning, as well as other key areas like the well-known Radio House that houses certain agencies related to the Ministry of Information and National Orientation. In these locations, a noticeable absence of workers was observed, as they chose to remain at home.

Banks situated in these surveyed areas were also found to be closed and locked. One of the major commercial banks at the Federal Secretariat informed our correspondent that banking operations would not take place due to the NLC’s declared strike.

It has been reported that the NLC, in a communique jointly signed by its national president, Joe Ajaero, and Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, declared the strike in response to the failure of the Tinubu-led Federal Government to engage in dialogue with organized labor and stakeholders regarding measures to mitigate the impact of the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol, on the “poor masses.”

In August, organized labor staged a one-day protest that disrupted activities in major cities across the country.

The NLC listed various other reasons for mobilizing its members for the nationwide shutdown, including allegations of police besieging the national headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, exploitation of workers’ rights in Imo state, interference in trade union affairs by the Abia State government, and the proposed demolition by the new Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, among others….CONTINUE READING
