Okonjo-Iweala who was speaking at an event that seemed like a graduation ceremony of a foreign university stated that she almost gave in to the demand until the then President, Goodluck Jonathan, encouraged her not to give in to such blackmail.
It’s refreshing to recall that the woman was later rescued from her kidnappers through the combined effort of the security agencies. But this story lays credence to the statement credited to the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, that they were expecting those benefiting from the entire subsidy scam to fight back; as they have always done.
The Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finace , Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala revealed Monday that her mother, Prof Kamene Okonjo was kidnapped by those who claimed their fuel subsidy payments were blocked and the non-release of SURE-P funds.
She said her mother was neither given food nor water during her kidnap.
