Confusion Trails Report On Lawan Opening New Fight With Tinubu Over Senate Presidency

Senator Osita Izunaso who the report claimed was pairing with him to be Deputy Senate President also strongly debunked the claim.

If, however, true, it could be another point of confrontation between Lawan and Tinubu after their rivalry in the APC presidential primaries ended with the now president-elect telling Lawan minutes after he was declared candidate to go lick his wounds.

It could also be seen as an affront after Tinubu had been reported to have endorsed Senator Godswill Akpabio for the position, a development that could have turned the race into a three-way race.

The other major contenders include Abdulazziz Yari and Senator Osita Izunaso. .

A Vanguard report claimed that Senator Osita Izunaso was set to pair with Lawan in the leadership contest. However, Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan, the media consultant to the Izunaso campaign debunked the claim on Monday night saying:

“Senator Izunaso is not pairing with Senator Lawan in any way. There is no iota of truth in the publication of him pairing with Ahmad Lawan. Senator Izunaso is in the race to win and he is the next president of the Senate, by the grace of God,” Olaosebikan intoned on Monday.

Lawan was one of the dignitaries who received Tinubu on his return to the country after what was described as a business trip to Europe.

“It is not true I can tell you that if Lawan wants to contest I would be among the first he would tell. He is not in the race and I know he is backing one of the aspirants.”

Another senator close to Ahmad Lawan was also said to have repudiated the claim of his bid for the office of Senate President…..CONTINUE READING
