There has been some talk that Pochettino was also not happy with the fact that he would have no say in the type of players that would be sold in the coming transfer window, and the players that could be signed.

Flick has also been mooted as a potential replacement for Pochettino but, according to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, the German has no interest in filling the vacant position in west London.

Pochettino, meanwhile, is said to be keen to make an immediate return to management and Manchester United are being tipped as a potential destination for the manager should Erik ten Hag be relieved of his duties.

In a brief statement on Chelsea’s official website, Pochettino said: ‘Thank you to the CHELSEA ownership group and sporting directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history.

‘The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.’

The news that Pochettino has come as a massive shock to many people – many thought that he would get another season at CHELSEA. But the board will have a hard time getting a new boss that is willing to take over and have no say on the transfer side of the club.
