Grant Us Autonomy Over Operations – Oyo ACOMORAN Urges Makinde

The appeal was made by the State chairman, Comrade Solomon Olugbode during a press conference in Ibadan, on Tuesday to celebrate Engr Seyi Makinde on his second term in office.

He expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the governor’s efforts to improve the lives of the tricycle and motorcycle riders in the state by giving them the privilege to wage war against miscreants.

His words: “Riding Tricycle/motorcycle for commercial purposes has had security challenges in the last four years that some states consider outright or partial ban of this sector in their state, the helpless riders were sent out of the labour market.

“Rather than suffer the innocent ones in Oyo state, the God Sent Man (GSM) Engr Seyi Makinde decided to regulate and give us the opportunity to live responsibly but wage war against the miscreants using motorcycles to commit crime.”

Olugbode acknowledged the remarkable strides Governor Seyi Makinde had made during his first term, particularly in the transportation sector.

He also appreciated the effort of the good leadership of Otunba Seye Famojuro, Hon. Wasiu Olatunbosun,, Prof. Daud Sangodoyin, Rt. Hon Debo Ogundoyin, Speaker OYHA & other honorable members, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo state command and other law enforcement agencies, Alh. Akeem Adebayo (Kuso), also the national president of ACOMORAN, Alh. Adebayo among others.

While expressing the aspirations and desires of ACOMORAN, Olugbode appealed to the government to grant autonomy to tricycle and motorcycle operations in the state. The chairman emphasized that providing autonomy to their industry would empower the riders and promote their economic well-being.

He said, “In view of this, we appeal to the government to give autonomy of tricycles and motorcycles in the state. In the medical profession, the doctors and nurses have their different union/association and training, this is reason for competency in the health sector, the judiciary has judges, lawyers and other judicial staff with different unions. Riding is different from driving, the particulars are different and the training is also different despite using the same road.”

Olugbode emphasized that the unruly behavior in tricycle/ motorcycle parks was a result of violent taken over of their parks by the motorists about two decades ago, stating that they have ability to sanitize riding operation in Oyo state if those parks forcefully taking over can be returned to them.

Appreciating the newly created agency by the state government, the Oyo State Mobilization Agency for Socio-Economic Development (OMASED), Olugbode emphasized that ACOMORAN members are ready to work with the agency and also ready embrace responsibility and contribute positively to the state’s development.

He stressed that they envisioned themselves as partners with the government, committed to upholding the principles of safety, orderliness, and fair play in the transportation sector….CONTINUE READING

Also speaking on the dissolution of the Park Management System (PMS) in the state, headed by Alhaji Mukaila Auxiliary, Com Olugbode stated that it is a welcome development in the state while also encouraging sanity to the system.
