Professor Yale said that the outgoing Buhari government was unable to honour the agreement signed between them and the federal government which are mainly improve salaries, funding public universities, implementation of promotions among other demands of the union which led to intermittent nationwide strikes by the union across the country.
He said the re-election of Prof Osodeke will help consolidate the gains made so far under his leadership as he was returned unopposed including all other contestable posts.
He added that though the final decision did not rest on Osodeke but on the ASSU NEC, the unions across all universities believe he can, through concerted efforts, ensure both demands are met because they are aware of peculiar problems of public universities in the country.
While commending the electoral process which was transparent also produced a National welfare officer from Usmanu Dan Fodio University in the person of Dr Aisha Bawa.
On whether Nigerian universities will no longer experience nationwide strikes, Comrade Yale said that they believe in the strong words of the President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu who said ASUU strikes are over in Nigeria once he takes over as President.
“We are optimistic that the incoming Tinubu government will honour the signed agreement to end strikes in the country but until then we urge our National President to remain committed to the signed agreement,” he said…..CONTINUE READING
