According to Okeme, the state chapter of SDP on the 20th of May 2023, completed the process of substitution of its candidate in a primary election as a fulfillment of the requirements of the electoral act.
He said the party substituted Alh Sheik Ibrahim Jibril for Alh. Yakubu Ajaka Murtala who became the substantive candidate of the party for the upcoming gubernatorial race in November.
“In what turned out to be a well organized primary election for the party delegates whose duty it was, by the SDP constitution and the electoral act, to partake in the process.
“The primary election witnessed the turnout of the Electoral Umpire, security operatives and gentlemen of the press who graced the occasion in Lokoja, the kogi state capital.
“After votes were cast and the result announced where out of the over 600 delegates present, over 95% cast their votes in favor of Alh. Murtala Ajaka Yakubu.
“Barr. Joseph Achille Abu, the National Organizing Secretary, who doubles as the Electoral Committee Chairman, announced the result to the jubilation and excitement of party members, stakeholders and well-wishers alike.
“News of the event permeated around the state and drew admirable responses from Kogites. Some of whom inundated the state secretariat in person in their numbers to pay solidarity visits to the party and appreciate its maturity so far in handling matters of state and national importance,” Okeme said
He added: “With this development, Alh. Murtala, having satisfied all the requirements by the party and electoral body, is poised to be heralded and hoisted as the party’s duly elected candidate by INEC in the coming days or weeks.
“It is safe to say that kogites are about to witness a new dawn of leadership that is purposeful, calculative, coordinated, passionate and result-oriented.
“The SDP is permitting Kogites to feel free and celebrate as the God they serve, having heard their cries for over 7 years of slavery and untold hardship, has answered their prayers.
“Alh. Murtala is a God-Fearing man who is nonpareil in his duty to humanity.
“Once again, the Social Democratic Party has entered into a covenant with the good people of Kogi state to uphold the tenets of social justice and fairness by providing sound leadership that will turn around the fortunes of the state in all facets of human endeavor.
