‘Tite had a philosophy, we had to respect it, but, regardless of the title, the leaders on the field, the most experienced players, everyone has the privilege and the right to speak with others or the referee. Respect on the pitch is earned.’
The decision to replace Silva with Casemiro reflects Brazil’s desire to build a new generation of players capable of challenging for major honours in the future with the likes of Neymar, Gabriel Jesus, and Richarlison also in the squad.
Due to a knee injury, the Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has not been included in the current Brazilian squad, which features several uncapped players as interim boss Ramon Menezes looks to provide them with opportunities.
