Many Nigerians are passing through a rough phase due to the hike in the price of fuel, especially civil servants and salary earners, as they cannot immediately get an increase in their salary until new laws are passed. In this vein, two state governors in Nigeria have been benevolent enough to reduce the working days for civil and public servants from the normal five days to three days to reduce the cost of commuting them to work until further notice.
1. Kwara State
The Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, was the first to reduce the work days for her public and civil servants from five to three days. The State Head of Service, Mrs. Susan Modupe, made this announcement on Monday as she encouraged the workers not to abuse the privilege given by the governor.
2. Edo State
On Tuesday, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, announced the reduction of the working days of the state public and civil servants from five to three to cushion the effect of the removal of the fuel subsidy. He noted that his administration would do anything to reduce the pain and suffering of his residents. The governor noted that the state had earlier increased the minimum wage from N30,000 to N40,000 and will increase it further when more allocations are given to the state from the federal government.
