According to Center for Disease Control & Mayo Clinic, here are 3 common reasons why people pass on while sleeping:

1. Cardiac arrest

Heart-related deaths may be caused by a number of medical diseases, such as congestive heart failure, sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), myocardial infarction, and arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) (CHF). The failure of the heart to pump enough blood to the rest of the body is a frequent symptom of all of these heart disorders, and it can be fatal.

2. Respiratory arrest

The heart and lungs work best together. As a result, it is likely that both systems will fail if one does. Cheyne- Stokes respiration, often known as periodic respiration, is one breathing pattern that signals impending mortality. It is characterized by rapid, deep breathing that gradually slows down until there is a temporary cessation of breathing, or apnea. Each cycle of the pattern lasts for up to two minutes.

3. Carbon monoxide poisoning

Have you heard of anyone passing away while snoozing in an air-conditioned vehicle? More probable than not, carbon monoxide poisoning is to blame.

If too much carbon monoxide (CO), a colorless and odorless gas, is breathed into the lungs, it can be lethal. Additionally, you scarcely notice it unless you are using a CO detector. It is present in the exhaust from operating automobiles, gas fireplaces, stoves, grills, water heaters, dryers, and other appliances.

What makes it kill? The amount of oxygen that is moving through your blood can be compromised by an increase in carbon monoxide levels. When this occurs, more poisonous carbon monoxide than oxygen is transported throughout the body by the blood during circulation. In the end, this results in shock or, in the worst instance, death.
