In a post on his official X account @RenoOmokri said Obi is afraid that South-south region will abandon him for President Bola Tinubu in 2027 general election because of the road.
He, therefore, Obi is doing everything possible to fault the project. “The reason Peter Obi is against the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway has nothing to do with the state of other roads in various parts of the country, as he claimed. Peter Obi is a trader. He has trader sense.
“What in English is called cunning or native intelligence. He himself built a brewery in Anambra when Anambra roads were death traps. His objections are just subterfuges.
“Obi wants to run for President again in 2027. And he feels that the South-South is his captive audience, based on the results of the last election. His projection is that the South-South will vote for him in 2027.
“However, he has calculated that if President Tinubu is able to deliver the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway by 2027, Asiwaju is likely to sweep South-South votes. That is what he is against. But it is not the only reason.
“Secondly, he knows that if he does not win in 2027, as is likely, power will almost certainly shift to the North by 2031. And if Dave Umahi is able to deliver that road for Tinubu, Umahi will be widely popular in the Southwest and South-South, making him an ideal running mate for a Presidential candidate from the North, and likely the Northeast.
“If that happens; Umahi will eclipse him as the most marketable Presidential candidate from the Southeast. That is his other Machiavellian reason for opposing the project. Landmark, bad roads, and the road being too expensive are all just red herrings to hide his true motives from the public.”
