“Abducted Oyo pupils and teachers will return safely” – Gov Makinde assures protesters

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo has revealed that efforts are ongoing to secure the safe return of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

Makinde spoke on Tuesday after meeting representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at the state secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan.

The groups had led a protest to the secretariat over the abduction, urging the governments at various levels and security agencies to rescue the abducted.

The governor said he listened to their concerns and assured them that authorities at all levels of government were working to secure the release of the victims.

“After listening to their concerns, I assured them that government at the national, State and local levels are working together to ensure the safe return of our children and teachers who were abducted in Oriire LGA,” he said.

Makinde said his administration would continue to prioritise the safety and welfare of residents, stating: “I said that we will continue to prioritise the safety and well-being of residents of our dear State.”

The governor added that the state government remained open to suggestions on how to improve security.

The abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire LGA has triggered concerns across the state, with labour unions, students and other groups demanding urgent action to secure their release.
