ADC Sets Dates for Congresses and Convention in New Timetable

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its commitment to proceed with the planned congresses and convention as part of its preparations for the upcoming 2027 general election.

In a timetable released on Friday, the party emphasized its position that the actions taken by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against the ADC are unlawful.

According to the timetable, which is signed by National Organizing Secretary Chinedu Idigo and National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, the screening of aspirants is scheduled to begin on April 7.

Following this, polling unit, ward, and local government congresses are set for April 9, state congresses will take place on April 11, and finally, the National Convention is scheduled for April 14, 2026.

It added that INEC had been notified of the planned congresses and convention.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has warned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) against moving forward with plans to hold its congresses and convention.

The INEC Chairman warned that the electoral commission would not monitor such congresses and conventions based on the prevailing court order.

Speaking on Friday during an interview with Arise News, Amupitan submitted that any action taken by the ADC before the court delivers a ruling on the leadership crisis affecting the party amounts to an illegality.

He warned that if the ADC conducts primary elections, and its candidates win elections, the court can declare such elections invalid, and the implication is that the person with the second-highest number of votes will be declared the winner, just as it previously happened in Zamfara and Plateau states.
