The Nigerian Army has commissioned a new complex at the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM) in honour of the late Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, former Chief of Army Staff.
The facility was officially commissioned on Friday, July 17, 2026, by the current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.
The new complex is designed to strengthen training, administration, and personnel welfare at the college.
Speaking at the event, Lt. Gen. Shaibu reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to building institutional capacity through modern infrastructure.
“The complex will enhance professional military education and improve our capacity to support national security,” he said.
Shaibu added that the facility would provide a conducive environment for developing highly skilled logistics professionals capable of sustaining operational effectiveness across the Army.
Describing the late General Lagbaja as an outstanding military leader, Shaibu highlighted his professionalism, integrity, selfless service, and dedication to the nation.
“Naming this complex after the late Chief of Army Staff is a reflection of the Nigerian Army’s enduring appreciation of his immense contributions to force development, leadership, and operational excellence,” he stated.
The COAS urged officers, instructors, and students of NACOLM to emulate the values exemplified by General Lagbaja by remaining disciplined, professional, and committed to excellence.
He reiterated that sustained investment in training institutions, modern infrastructure, and personnel welfare remains central to his command philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptive, combat-ready, and resilient force capable of effectively fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities in a joint and multi-agency environment.
Lieutenant General Lagbaja served as the 23rd Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army. He passed away on November 5, 2024, at the age of 56 after a period of illness and long absence from official duties.
The late army chief was buried with full military honours on November 15, 2024, at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja, where President Tinubu conferred on him the national honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR).
