Makama suggested that ISWAP’s reliance on IEDs may signal a weakening of their conventional militant capabilities.
“The use of IEDs is often a tactic of desperation,” Makama explained, “indicating that ISWAP may lack the manpower and firepower to engage in direct confrontations as they have in the past.”
Makama further noted a shift in ISWAP’s strategies from offensive operations to defensive measures aimed at repelling military advances into their territories.
“In the past, ISWAP could launch attacks on military bases and towns,” Makama elaborated, “but now, their focus appears to be on defensive tactics to protect their strongholds.”
The incident serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing security threats faced by civilians and security forces in the Lake Chad region, where militant groups continue to operate despite efforts to curb their activities.
Local authorities have been urged to enhance security measures along major roads and agricultural areas to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
