Some Nigerian youths from Delta communities, Thursday, March 14th, 2024 conspired to kill some military men including one Army Commander, two Majors, a captain, and 12 Soldiers during a peacekeeping mission.

The military officers were in the community to keep the peace following a crisis that erupted between Okuama and Okoloba communities in the state.
Following the development, the Federal Government of Nigeria has given Fullscale authority to the Nigerian Army to bring to book every individual responsible for the heinous behavior of the people residing in the Delta Communities.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his reaction to the development, insisted that “members of the armed forces are at the heart and core of our nationhood. Any attack on them is a direct attack on our nation. We will not accept this wicked act.”
Speaking further the President said, “The Defense Headquarters and the Chief of the Defense Staff have been granted full authority to bring to justice, anybody found to have been responsible for this unconscionable crime against the Nigerian people.”
This matching order given to the Army may throw the two Delta communities to a graveyard in the coming days as the military deploys its troops to arrest the attack.
Not pleased with the directive given by President Tinubu, former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the 2023 presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, while commiserating with the Nigerian Army suggested full force should not be deployed in response to the attack on the military.
He said “The brutal killing of over a dozen Nigerian soldiers in Okuama in the Ughelli South Local Government Area and Okoloba in the Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State stands condemned. There can never be a justification for a premeditated killing of soldiers on a legitimate assignment.
“Even as we grieve the loss of these soldiers, who are not only Nigerians but have families and dependants, I urge restraints by the military authorities in its response. I would recommend that the culprits be arrested and prosecuted.
A report reaching The Round Table stated that the majority of residents of the two warring communities have been deserting their homes following the expectation of a reprisal attack in response from the Nigerian Military.
