Idinye a two time gubernatorial aspirant in Edo State said on Sunday that Adeniyi’s appointment will continue to receive commendation and applause from stakeholders in the sector who are pleased with the latest innovative interventions in the Service.
Idinye added that the NCS has now been returned to career Customs officers that understand the rudiment of the system, trade facilitation and also foster officers’ career growth.
Speaking with some senior journalists at Transcorp hotel on Sunday in Abuja, Idinye said Adeniyi’s appointment was a round peg in a round hole which will make an impact in the Nigerian maritime sub- sector stressing that the revenue profile of the service is now rising on a daily basis in the interest of the country.
“I am truly impressed to see that under the leadership of the new Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adeniyi (MFR) the organization has succeeded in generating N343 billion in revenue only between July and August 2023. This isn’t a mean feat and we must recognize President Tinubu for making this unique appointment by making a man of vision and purpose as the head of this highly sensitive service.
“I have also noticed that he is a good listener, an excellent administrator who can drive the affairs of NCS in line with global best practices. A new dawn has now returned, the service now has career Customs officers that understand the rudiment of the system, its dynamics, objectives, trade facilitation and also with the zest to foster officers’ career growth. This is quite commendable to see a round peg in a round hole.

“Another milestone to his credit is that he introduced the first platform bringing together retired CGs and senior officers together where they can network, exchange ideas and pleasantries and as well feel fulfilled having served in NCS. As I speak today, Customs Training Schools throughout Nigeria are now active with serving officers with brighter career, while other officers are sent to train in other military institutions to improve on their operational and administrative dealings.
“One thing you cannot take away from the CG is his integrity and also passion for the job and I deeply salute him for the reintroduction of CG’S Conference starting from ,13 and 15 of December in Lagos. This is a Conference that normally brings together past CGs of Customs and retired officers to share more light on operation of service.
“With his fresh and robust agenda, revenue has increased astronomically, remember I mentioned this earlier, emphasizing this for umpteenth time should be out of place. Today across all Commands flash points, smuggling activities have been reduced to bearest minimum, stakeholders engagements especially with traditional leaders at border areas have significantly helped qto mitigate importation of contraband, the morale of the personnel has been boosted as they now see good future in their career.
“Meanwhile, I equally use this opportunity to appeal to the National Assembly, both Senate and House of Representatives to contine to support any hard working organistion in revenue collections like Customs and the Federal inland revenue service. Such a collaborative and patriotic effort will go a long way in boosting the economy of the country.
“I can say very conveniently that CG is implementing President Tinubu’s agenda on full implementation of 2023 Customs Act to the letter. This is good for our nation and as a stakeholder, I am proud to be identified with this new leadership under Mr Adeniyi which is in overall good of country.” Idinye stated.
