The searches come in the wake of allegations against Bawa, including mismanagement, misappropriation, and diversion of proceeds from the sale of forfeited assets. Bawa is presently being held in custody by the DSS in Abuja, where he faces investigations regarding alleged financial impropriety during his tenure as the EFCC chairman.
According to reliable sources, the DSS agents carried out a search at Bawa’s residence in Gwarinpa, Abuja, in the presence of his wife and children.

Moreover, Bawa’s close associates at the EFCC office have been summoned for questioning this week. They are currently under investigation regarding allegations of mismanagement, misappropriation, and diversion of proceeds from the sale of forfeited assets that took place under Bawa’s watch.
However, an anonymous government source has indicated that the DSS has not yet filed charges against Bawa, as their investigation is still ongoing. The source stated, “The DSS is yet to charge him to court because they’re still carrying out their investigation.”
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the DSS has obtained an ex parte order to extend Bawa’s detention in their facility, potentially as a measure to dissuade him from challenging his detention in court.
