Former Adamawa State Governor, Senator Mohammed Umar Jibrilla Bindow, has officially resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bindow communicated his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of the ADC in Lokuwa Ward, Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The letter, dated July 15, 2026, was received by the ward leadership on July 31.
In the letter, the former governor said his decision came after deep reflection on his political future and his commitment to public service.
“I write to formally tender my resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), effective from 15th July, 2026,” Bindow stated.
“This decision follows careful reflection and extensive consideration of my personal convictions, political aspirations, and commitment to the continued service of our people.”
The former governor expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve under its platform and thanked its leadership and members for their support during his time in the ADC.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity to have associated with the party and to have contributed, in my own way, to its growth and democratic ideals,” he wrote.
“I hold the leadership and members of the party in high regard and wish them success in their future endeavors.”
Bindow, who governed Adamawa State between 2015 and 2019, said changing political realities influenced his decision to leave the party.
“As political realities continue to evolve, I believe it is necessary for me to take a new path consistent with my vision and responsibilities to the people I have always sought to serve.”
“It is time to move, so I have moved,” he added.
The former governor joined the ADC after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he previously served as governor and remained one of the party’s most influential figures in Adamawa.
Although Bindow did not disclose his next political destination in the resignation letter, his departure is likely to fuel speculation over a possible return to the APC.
On June, Vice President Kashim Shettima fueled speculation about Bindow’s next move after hosting the former governor in Abuja.
Following the meeting, Shettima shared a brief but widely discussed message.
“BINDOW IS COMING!” the Vice President wrote after their discussions.
He added: “I had fruitful discussions today in my office with my friend, brother and contemporary, Sen. Bindo Umaru Jibrilla, former Governor of Adamawa State, on politics, security, governance and issues of common interest.”
The statement immediately raised suggestions that the former governor was on the verge of returning to the APC.
The meeting came only weeks after Bindow withdrew from the ADC governorship race in Adamawa State.
On May, the former governor announced his withdrawal from the contest after what he described as extensive consultations and personal reflection.
At the time, he maintained that he remained committed to the ADC and its ideals.
“I remain fully committed to the party, its leaders, stakeholders, and members across all levels, and I will continue to support every genuine effort aimed at strengthening our party and advancing its vision for a better Adamawa State and a greater Nigeria,” Bindow said while announcing his withdrawal from the race.
