This is as a result of the Lagos deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat who took an oath of allegiance to the United States (US) and had renounced his Nigerian citizenship.
It is known that persons who acquire an American citizenship are made to swar an oath of allegiance, thereby denouncing other foreign sovereignty.
The American oath of allegiance reads in part:
“I declare on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend USA”.
A US immigration lawyer, Olubusayo Fasidi, on Thursday, June 22, testified before the Lagos state election petition tribunal as a witness by Olumide Ayeni, counsel to Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
After the March 18 governorship election, Rhodes-Vivour approached the election tribunal to challenge the victory of Governor Sanwo-Olu and his running mate, Hamzat.
It was stated that the judge ordered counsel to the respondents to include their objections in their final written addresses before adjourning the hearing to Monday, June 26…..CONTINUE READING
