P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at about 11pm in January, 2024 in the farm where both were before the ugly incident.
The suspect, James, was alleged to have raped the victim after hitting her with a stone to subdue her and she died. He then dumped her corpse inside a waste pit in order to cover up.
After his arrest and interrogation, James was subsequently charged before the Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, for statutory rape and murder under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The prosecutor, Inspector Anwana Josephine, told the Court that the defendant, after allegedly raping the victim to death, hit her with a stone on the forehead and dumped her corpse inside a waste pit.
However, the dastardly act got exposed and he was eventually arrested. He was consequently charged before the Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The Presiding Magistrate, F. A. Aduroja, did not grant him bail and did not take his plea before the Court. The Magistrate rather ordered his remand in custody at the correctional centre and adjourned the matter till 27th March, 2024, for the DPP to offer legal advice.
