According to SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, the incident occurred on June 9, 2023, when a tanker carrying Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) experienced a mechanical fault near Gwagwa Primary School along the Gwagwa-Karmo road. As efforts were being made to fix the fault, a spark ignited, resulting in a massive explosion that engulfed the tanker in flames.
Fortunately, there were no reported casualties in the inferno. The swift response of the Gwagwa Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, and operatives of the Federal Fire Service played a crucial role in curbing the damage caused by the explosion. They implemented safety measures and ensured crowd control at the scene. Currently, efforts are underway to completely extinguish the remaining fire.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the immediate and remote cause of the explosion. They are committed to unraveling the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident.
