Findings showed that three persons were killed while five others sustained gun injuries.

The incident happened at Steel Rolling Mills (now Dangote Company), at midnight during an attempt to cart away properties from the company.

A source confided in Blueprint that the suspected robbers arrived in three vehicles and entered the company through the back.

“They were already inside the premises when security men at the entrance, who were majorly hunters became aware of their presence.

“The hunters later engaged the robbers in a gun duel. While engaging the robbers, the hunters called for police assistance, and men from Osun command were immediately deployed.

“During the exchange gunshotsots, three robbers were shot dead, while five others were injured. The exchange between the robbers and the security men lasted over three hours.

“Police van later came in the morning and evacuated those injured to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for treatment. Corpses of those that died were deposited at the morgue of State Specialists Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo,” the source added.

The spokesperson of the Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident, saying that “Armed robbers exchange guns with the police. I can not confirm the number of those killed.”

The Corps Commandant of Amotekun, Brig Gen. Bashir Adewimbi (Rtd), also confirmed the incident, saying, “They shot at our boys and they responded. It is a joint patrol of police, hunters, and Amotekun.

“They have been causing damage to the Steel Rolling Mills. We have no choice but to engage them,” Adewimbi said.
