Oseya vehemnetly condemned the soldiers for preventing Governor Oborevwori Sheriff Oborevwori access to Okuama community in the wake of recent tragic events, including the killing of 17 soldiers.
In a conversation with Vanguard, Oseya expressed deep concern about the actions of the Army following the incident. He stated, “The role of the Army in the aftermath of the ugly incident so far leaves a stale taste in the buds.”
Oseya condemned the Army’s decision to burn down the Okuama community and neighboring areas without proper investigation, describing it as an erasure of critical evidence and preemptive of investigation.
Furthermore, he criticized the Army for denying the Governor of Delta State access to the community for an on-the-spot assessment, calling it “patently discourteous of protocol.”
Questioning the legality of the Army’s investigative powers, Oseya stressed that investigative authority lies with the police, not the military. He highlighted the need for an impartial investigation into the incident, urging the Federal Government to establish a high-powered panel or commission of inquiry.
Oseya further urged authorities to handle the situation with care to prevent further escalation, stating, “Fish out the few unscrupulous elements that killed those officers and men of the Nigerian Army, yes! However, in doing so, we must not set the children’s teeth on edge because their fathers have eaten soured grapes.”
