In a statement released by a member of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), Mallam Yahaya Muhammad Boyi, the Sultan announced that Ramadan fasting for the year will commence on Monday. A formal declaration by the Sultan is expected later in the night.

The statement from the Sultanate Council Sokoto indicated that Monday, March 11, 2024, marks the first day of Ramadan 1445 AH.

The Sultan had earlier encouraged Muslims across the country to observe the skies after sunset on Sunday, March 10, to sight the crescent of Ramadan 1445 AH, which corresponds to the 29th of Sha’aban 1445 AH.

Prof. Salisu Shehu, the Deputy Secretary-General of NSCIA, echoed this sentiment, urging the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to diligently search for the Ramadan crescent immediately after sunset on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
