The project, which is called ‘Global Footprint: From the U.S. to Nigeria’ is an initiative motivated by the ongoing challenge in the country due to hunger.
The initiator of the project, Shola Odele said despite his newfound status in the U.S. Army, he was unable to forget home, especially Kakuri, Kaduna South local government area of the state, where he grew up.
According to Mr Shola, many are unable to feed due to the hardship suffered in the country, hence the need to reach out loud.
Blueprint learnt that over 130 persons were reached out to during the project launch with the hope of reaching out to a larger community.
“The project is a result of going all the way from Nigeria to the United States, all the struggling just to join the Army, which is not an easy task. So yes, it’s our way of giving back.
“My colleague here, Sergeant Brady, is a man that loves the zeal and likes donating a lot and that’s why we decided on a partnership and came up with this name for the project.
“This is my community where I grew up in Kakuri, Kaduna which is why we started from here; as you know, charity begins at home. But we do have plans of going higher and even international.
“We targeted the less privileged such as the widows, widowers and orphans, taking 15 persons per street including some passersby. So that’s how we were able to reach 130 people,” he said.
One of the beneficiaries, Rakiya Shehu Ibrahim, expressed her delight as she prayed for them, as according to her, the situation in the country has turned many into less privileged who find it difficult to fend for themselves.
She also called on other citizens of the state who are capable of helping others in their capacity to please reach out so that other poor people can benefit.
