BREAKING: Vice President Shettima Enters Senate Race, Obtains APC Forms

A frontline aspirant for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District seat, Yerima Shettima, has formally obtained the expression of interest and nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The forms were reportedly collected on his behalf by two of his associates, Hon. Danjuma Paul and Barrister Onus Eugene, signalling his formal entry into the contest for the party’s senatorial ticket.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the exercise, Shettima said the decision to pick the forms was aimed at dispelling doubts over his seriousness to contest the seat.

He recalled that he had recently led a large number of supporters to the Kaduna State secretariat of the party where he formally declared his intention to join the race for the Kaduna Central seat.

According to him, the move further demonstrates his readiness to participate fully in the party’s primary election and provide what he described as quality representation for the people of the district.

Shettima dismissed speculations surrounding the emergence of a consensus or “anointed” candidate, insisting that the process must be transparent and democratic.

He said, “I picked the forms to show that I am fully in the race. Kaduna Central deserves effective and people-oriented representation, and I am prepared to offer that service.”

The aspirant maintained that his years in youth advocacy and northern stakeholder engagements have strengthened his connection with the grassroots and positioned him as a credible voice for the district.

Shettima, who previously served as President-General of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum and currently convenes the Northern Stakeholders Consultative Initiative, said his experience in public advocacy has prepared him for legislative responsibility.

Also speaking, President of the Capacity Movement, Shehu Sani Sado, described Shettima as a strong contender in the Kaduna Central senatorial race.

He said the current political dynamics in the zone favour his emergence, adding that the aspirant remains one of the major figures to watch as activities build up towards the 2027 elections.

Political observers say Shettima’s formal entry into the race is expected to intensify the contest for the APC ticket in the district, given his visibility among youth and northern interest groups.
