Insiders attribute this development to emerging claims of a strong possibility of the reversal of his election.

There is said to be an ongoing far-reaching political horse-trading to return impeached Speaker Olakunle Oluomo SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Elemide was elected Speaker on Tuesday, January 23, 2023, immediately after the impeachment of Oluomo. They are both members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The impeachment reportedly caught stakeholders outside of the Ogun State House of Assembly – including Governor Dapo Abiodun – flatfooted.

Eighteen of the twenty-six lawmakers in the House of Assembly carried out the deed. Five other members reportedly signed up after the impeachment.

The new speaker, Elemide secured block support from members of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to have his way.

Sources say leaders of APC outside of the State House of Assembly are concerned about the block support provided by the members elected on the platform of the PDP to make Elemide the new Speaker – and the inherent threats of larger implications.

“Because it upsets the arrangements said to keep the state going, there is an ongoing horse-trading to reverse the recent happenstance, and because the situation is still dicey, the celebrations on either side are still on hold” according to those in the know.
