Former Kano State Governor and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed reports alleging that he accused the Kano State Government of mismanaging public funds through payments made to former councillors.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje described the report as false, misleading and entirely unfounded.
According to the statement, the publication failed to provide any evidence that the alleged interview took place, including the date, venue, media organisation, journalist involved or any proof that Ganduje made the comments attributed to him.
The statement maintained that the former governor never made such remarks, insisting that the report was fabricated to distort his views and create unnecessary political tension.
“Given his status as an elder statesman who has access to government officials at both the national and state levels, it will be unbecoming of Dr Ganduje to invite the media to publicly express his views on how governments are being run,” the statement read.
It added that Ganduje believes in offering advice through the appropriate channels whenever necessary rather than making unverified public comments.
The statement further disclosed that efforts were underway to identify those responsible for the publication, adding that legal action would be taken once they are traced.
“The source of this misleading publication is currently being traced and necessary legal steps will be taken once those behind it are identified,” it stated.
Ganduje urged members of the public to disregard the report and advised media organisations to verify information before publishing stories, particularly those involving public figures.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to peace, accountability and responsible political engagement, while calling for professionalism and accuracy in public communication.
