Kaylee Allison had a passion for hairdressing. She loved styling people’s hair, cutting it, shaping it, and transforming it into something new and exciting. She might have only been 20 years old, but she had plenty of practice and experience in the industry. So successful was Kaylee that she had found a job in a hairdressing salon already. In fact, she was the fastest-rising star that the Capri Salon had ever seen.
You see, Kaylee was innovative when it came to hairstyles. She would happily provide a simple cut and blow dry if that’s what people needed, but she liked to be on the cutting edge of fashion, trying out all kinds of new, exotic, and exciting hairstyles on people who were brave enough to take the plunge.
It certainly was an art, and if anyone was a master of it, Kaylee was. But at the end of the day, the main reason why Kaylee was a hairdresser was that she liked making people feel good about themselves. There was nothing quite like seeing someone looking delighted with their brand new hairstyle. It’s what made it all worthwhile for her. It gave her a sense of accomplishment and warmth that she never felt anywhere else.
The day was exciting. Every day was new, and no two days were ever the same. But Kaylee could have never predicted what was awaiting her one day. In fact, it’s something that shook her to her very core. Keep watching to discover what happened.
It was just an ordinary day, and Kaylee was going about her business as normal. She liked to chat to her customers as she worked and keep up with all the local news and gossip. It was certainly one of the perks of the job. But while she was working, something caught her eye outside.
It was a teenage girl looking to be around 16 years old. She was peering through the window and watching Kaylee and the other hairdressers work. Still, Kaylee ignored her and carried on cutting her customer’s hair. But it’s what the girl did next that is so shocking.
The teenage girl walked through the doors of the Capri Salon. She was wearing large, oversized, baggy clothes and looked very dirty and unkempt. She had a sad and scared look upon her face. Kaylee turned and greeted the girl with a big smile. Just because her appearance was a little scruffy didn’t mean there was anything wrong with the girl. But the girl took one look at the smiling hairdresser and turned quickly, fleeing back out of the salon.
As the girl ran, Kaylee noticed her hair. There was so much of it. It hung down her back, all clumped together and matted. It looked very unclean and like it needed a good wash, comb, and cut. But even Kaylee, a woman who thought she had seen and experienced everything when it came to hairdressing, had a hard time imagining how she would tackle that particular head of hair.
Confused, Kaylee quickly followed her to the door, asking her if she was okay and telling her to stop running. The girl stopped in her tracks and slowly turned around, wary about what was going to happen next. For some reason, Kaylee’s heart was racing, and she couldn’t quite explain why. But the girl gave her a little smile and slowly started to walk back towards the salon. Kaylee told her to come in and that they have magazines and milkshakes to enjoy while she waited for her hair to be cut.
The girl sat in an empty chair and waited for around an hour for Kaylee to finally be finished with all her clients. At that point, the salon was very quiet, and the nervous girl took a seat in front of the hairdresser. She looked at herself in the mirror and shook her head as if she were ashamed of what she saw.
This gave Kaylee an opportunity to take a closer look at the girl’s hair. It was very much in a bad state. It had clearly not been cared for and was a big mess. It hadn’t had a comb run through it in a long time, and who knows when it was last cut. Dealing with this hair was going to be a bit of a nightmare. Kaylee found herself wondering if maybe the girl was homeless. She just didn’t know. Still, Kaylee thought she’d inquire and asked the girl why she wanted it cutting so badly.
The girl simply looked ashamed and told her to get rid of it all because it was worthless and looked terrible. There was too much of it, and it didn’t look nice at all. At one point, it may have looked beautiful, but now, well, now it was just a horrific tangle of a mess.
Kaylee reassured her that they would take things slow and do their best. The clippers would be their last resort and only used if they absolutely had to be. But first off, they would start by applying some lotions and trying to get a comb through the tangled mass.
The girl looked confused and didn’t seem to understand why Kaylee cared so much, but she agreed. What’s the worst that could happen? All her hair gets cut off? Well, that’s what she wanted anyway, so she agreed and watched as the hairdresser slowly started to get to work.
As Kaylee applied several lotions and started to massage them into the girl’s hair, the girl started to slowly but surely open up. She was naturally scared and defensive, but there was something about Kaylee that the girl trusted. She couldn’t understand it, but she just wanted to talk to her and explain things.
But as she started to speak, Kaylee’s mouth dropped open in shock and horror at the reason why the girl was in such an unkempt state. It turned out that the girl’s mother had sadly died just a few months before. Since then, she’d been discouraged and heartbroken, sinking into a deep and debilitating depression.
She had sunk very low, and in her grief, she just couldn’t see a way out of her sad state, the despair that seemed to be a part of her life now, and the girl was starting to get used to the fact that she would have to live with it forever. She couldn’t even comb her hair at times because she felt so depressed, abandoned, and unworthy. She had only just started going back to school, but with school photos around the corner, she needed to do something to look better.
Kaylee listened intently as she cut and styled and realized that she had tears flowing down her cheeks. The girl’s story was a truly moving one, and Kaylee wished she could do something, anything, to make it better. It was true that her hair would take a long time to fix, but Kaylee vowed to herself that she would help.
She cleared the rest of her daily clients and made sure that the next day was also free too. She then set off cutting and styling in earnest. The girl had been through a tough time, and if anyone could make her feel even a little better, Kaylee could. But would the plan work? Would the girl end up with a beautiful head of hair once again, or would she have to have it all clipped off?
Well, Kaylee worked like she never had before. High fashion was not the name of the game here. The goal was to provide the poor girl with a beautiful head of hair that she could be proud of. Over the next few days, the girl sat and let the hairdresser work. They talked, they opened up to each other, and they got to know each other very well. But not once did the girl ever look truly happy, not until she finally saw herself in the mirror after another long day of work.
Kaylee told the girl to stand up and look at herself, and for the first time since they had met, the girl smiled. She saw how beautiful her hair was, and she actually smiled. This act alone was enough to bring tears to Kaylee’s eyes once more. The girl reached into her pocket to pull out some money, but Kaylee put her hand on the girl’s shoulder and told her that it wasn’t necessary.
She told her that whenever she needed a haircut, to come directly to her, and she would sort her out. And on top of that, if the girl ever needed a friend, someone to talk to, have a laugh with, or even cry with, then Kaylee would always be there. Once more, the girl smiled before hugging the hairdresser tightly. Such a kind act from Kaylee was enough to add a touch of warmth and color to an otherwise sad and gloomy life.
