How Long Can HIV Survive Outside of the Body?
According to healthline the virus is most potent within the body and can easily be transmitted through blood, vaginal fluid, semen, and other internal body fluids. However, when the virus is outside of the body, it does not survive for long. Therefore, the risk of contracting HIV through sharing items such as razors or sharp objects is extremely low.
Studies have indicated that the virus loses approximately 90 to 99% of its ability to cause infection within a couple of hours of being outside of the body. Consequently, coming into contact with someone’s blood, semen, or other bodily fluids after a certain period of time only poses minimal risk of contracting the disease.
