Troops of the Nigerian military’s Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected collaborator of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The suspect, Umara Abubakar, 22, was apprehended in Kekeno town around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2026, following actionable intelligence.

According to counter-terrorism expert Zagazola Makama, the arrest was carried out in collaboration with operatives and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

It was based on information obtained from another suspect already in custody.

“The suspect is currently in military custody for further investigation,” Makama said.

He added that the arrest forms part of ongoing counter-insurgency and intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling terrorist support networks operating within communities across the North-East.

“Military authorities said the general security situation across the theatre remains calm but unpredictable, while troops continue to maintain high morale and operational effectiveness in ongoing operations against terrorist groups,” Makama stated.
