Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), the attorney for INEC, responded to Livy Uzoukwu’s (SAN) assertion that the INEC Chairman’s office refused to comply with a subpoena issued to Professor Mahmood Yakubu to provide some papers
Midway through the proceedings on Wednesday, Uzoukwu asserted the position after Audu Anuga (SAN), another attorney representing the petitioners, abruptly stated that he had used up all of their resources for the day as he was submitting documents.
The head of the petitioners’ legal team, Uzoukwu, stood up and told the court that his team would have liked to proceed if it weren’t for the INEC Chairman’s office declining to accept a subpoena placed on him to deliver some papers, a development that was impeding their ability to move forward with their case.
Pinheiro reacted by noting that the petitioners’ behavior had taken on a pattern of looking for someone to blame whenever they became trapped and unable to move their case forward.
It’s become a habit, Pinheiro added. Every time they need to request an adjournment, they search for someone to whip. The assertion that the INEC Chairman’s office has rejected a subpoena is untrue.
