A total of 24 players have been invited to the Super Eagles camp ahead of Nigeria’s crucial back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Tanzania on November 13 and 17, OwnGoalNigeria can exclusively reveal.
Although the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to officially announce the squad, all 24 invited players have reportedly been contacted and sent their flight tickets to travel to Uyo, where the team’s training camp is scheduled to open tomorrow.
Nigeria will host Tanzania in the first encounter on Friday, November 13, before travelling to Dar es Salaam for the return fixture on November 17.
The Super Eagles are targeting maximum points from both matches as they look to strengthen their chances of securing qualification for the next AFCON tournament.
Nigeria’s qualification campaign has already suffered a setback following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau, having started with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar.
The result leaves the three-time African champions with little room for further mistakes, making the two fixtures against Tanzania particularly important.
The qualification situation is also complicated by the presence of Tanzania, who are among the tournament’s co-hosts. As a result, only one team is expected to secure qualification from the group, unlike other qualifying groups.
With pressure mounting, the Super Eagles will be determined to secure six points from their double-header against Tanzania and keep their AFCON qualification hopes firmly on track.
The NFF is yet to make the list of invited players public.
