According to Sahara Reporters, Governor Akeredolu has been undergoing chemotherapy in Nigeria, leaving him incapacitated for up to 10 hours after each medication session. The severity of his condition prompted the request for an air ambulance.
On Tuesday, President Tinubu directed Governor Akeredolu to transfer power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim. The transfer, done via electronic signature, acknowledges the governor’s weakened state.
During an emergency meeting on Monday, Tinubu disclosed that Akeredolu was unable to sign documents due to his condition. The meeting aimed to address the leadership crisis in Ondo State, with mounting pressure from civil society organizations demanding the governor’s resignation.
Concerns were raised during the meeting about potential forgery issues, given the established case in handling state affairs. The decision to transfer power to Aiyedatiwa was initially suggested but faced resistance, as some argued it could humiliate the ailing governor.
