Wolves are enjoying a brilliant season under Gary O’Neil as the Englishman currently has them sitting in 11th place in the Premier League.
Many tipped the Wanderers to be battling to stay in the division but O’Neil has exceeded expectations in his debut campaign.
The Midlands club looks set for a bright future under the former Bournemouth boss, particularly with a talented squad at his disposal.
But there may be one player who Wolves rue not signing when they had the opportunity.
Wolves have benefitted massively from picking up talented players from the Portuguese league since their return to England’s top flight.
Yet, Vitinha is one player who slipped through their fingers.
The midfielder spent the 2020/21 on loan at Molineux but he struggled for minutes under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Indeed, Vitinha made just 22 appearances for Wolves before returning to FC Porto in the summer of 2021.
The club passed up the opportunity to sign the youngster on a permanent basis and now Vitinha is excelling for Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
The 24-year-old netted in PSG’s 4-1 win at Barcelona last night, with the French giants booking their place in the semi-final.
And Vitinha’s display led to high praise from Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
“The main man for me, he has been running the show for a very long time for this team now, is Vitinha,” Henry told CBS Sports.
“He scored in Paris, he scored again tonight. He was everywhere tonight.”
Vitinha racked up 22 appearances in all competitions for Wolves, netting once and providing one assist.
The Portuguese midfielder managed just 799 minutes during this period.
It’s fair to say that while Vitinha didn’t exactly display his potential at Wolves, he was limited by a lack of minutes under Espirito Santo.
He returned to Porto the following season and helped them pick up a league title.
His form ultimately earned him a move to PSG the following summer and he’s displaying his quality on the big stage now.
