Security consultant and public affairs analyst, Ladi Peter Thompson, has claimed that President Tinubu’s government spent over $150 million in Washington to prevent possible intervention by former U.S. President Donald Trump over killings in Nigeria.
Speaking during an interview that has now gained attention online, Thompson alleged that the Nigerian government moved huge sums of money to lobbyists in the United States to weaken growing international pressure over insecurity, especially attacks affecting Christian communities in parts of Northern Nigeria.
According to him, the funds were allegedly deployed to shape narratives in Washington and stop external pressure that could force stronger U.S. action on Nigeria’s security situation.

Thompson argued that concerns over violence, particularly in North-Central Nigeria and other troubled regions, had started drawing serious attention from foreign observers and influential political figures in the United States.
He claimed the alleged spending was designed to counter accusations of targeted killings and to reduce international scrutiny over the worsening security challenges facing the country.
The claims have sparked reactions on social media, with many Nigerians questioning the level of resources reportedly committed to foreign lobbying at a time the country continues to battle insecurity, economic hardship, and rising public frustration.
However, there is currently no publicly available evidence confirming Thompson’s claim that over $150 million was spent.
Available records from the United States show that Nigeria engaged Washington-based lobbying firm DCI Group under a multi-million-dollar contract tied to strategic communication and diplomatic engagement.
The agreement, reportedly initiated in late 2025 through Kaduna-based legal representatives acting on behalf of the Office of the National Security Adviser, was aimed at presenting Nigeria’s security efforts to U.S. policymakers and addressing concerns surrounding violence and counter-terrorism operations.
The lobbying arrangement was also reportedly focused on projecting Nigeria’s commitment to protecting both Christian and Muslim communities while strengthening support for anti-terror operations in West Africa.
Neither the Presidency nor the Office of the National Security Adviser has officially responded to Thompson’s latest claims as of the time of filing this report.
