The NWC member stated that while he was speaking, several party members had advised Ayu to honourably resign before the 2023 presidential election, but he had refused.

He stated:

“We told Ayu privately that be should resign so, G-5 can campaign for us but, he refused.Some of us told him privately to resign so that Governor Wike and his group, would return to the campaign council and work for the party and our candidate. I do not know what was going on in his mind, but, I think he believed the lies circulating in the media then that some All Progressives Congress’ governors were working with Atiku Abubakar to give him victory.”

Ayu should have bowed out so that the four other governors could support Atiku Abubakar, the NWC member claimed, even if he had a chance to win his state for the party, which they knew he couldn’t without the backing of Governor Samuel Ortom.

He stated:

“We cannot openly come out and speak now, but the truth is that, we are happy with the acting national chairman. I do not know what will become of Ayu but, Damagum has the support of the majority of the National Working Committee members already…..CONTINUE READING
