As on so many occasions last season, Lookman was at the heart of things for Atalanta early on and created their first chance of the game in the fourth minute when his corner found its way to Teun Koopmeiners, whose goal-bound effort was cleared off the line.

Lookman continued to pull the strings for his side and would have his first sniff at goal in the 14th minute, but his effort was well blocked.

The Nigerian’s best chance of the game came in the closing moments of the first half, when he dragged his left-footed effort wide after being played in by strike partner Zapata.

While he would have been frustrated not to have registered a goal or an assist, Lookman would have been pleased to see his team get the job done through goals from Charles De Ketelaere and Nadir Zortea.

The 25-year-old will back himself to get up and running for the season next time around against Frosinone.
