Following his arrest, the suspect identified as Abubakar, spoke in a viral video posted by Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, on his X handle on Monday.
Abubakar said about five of them raided the students’ hostels and took the students to a community called Kalawu.
He added that there was another gang of bandits also terrorising the students. He said they were about forty in number.
He said, “We are five in number that went to the place to abduct the students. Mallam Tukur, Dan Bogo, myself (Abubakar), Shehu and Babuga.
“There is another crew called the Dogo Gede crew. I don’t know their names but I know them. Dogo Gede’s crew reaches at least 40 in number.
“We abducted students of the Federal University of Gusau, Zamfara. We kidnapped only the females. We kidnapped up to 12 of them. Others escaped because of the security men who came when we were operating. We took the kidnapped victims to a village called Kalawu.”
“The security men did not kill any of my team members during the attack, none of us died,” he added.
Abubakar’s claim that none of his team members died contradicted what Nigeria’s military high command, the Defence Headquarters, Abuja said last December when it said that four terrorists behind the abduction were killed.
This was contained in a release by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, identifying the terrorists as Machika, Haro, Dan Muhammadu and Ali Alhaji Alheri, popularly called Kachalla Ali Kawaje.

The gunmen invaded the students’ residence at Sabon-Gida identified as Nazeer Sabon-Gida and took away some female students of the school.
A few hours later, the Nigerian Army announced that it had rescued six of the students after a gun battle with the terrorists.
The rescue of the students was announced during a meeting between the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Dr. Betta Edu and the survivors.
