The learned silk had written that “It is high time the government of Kogi State is held responsible for the killings of the people of Kogi East. The level of state terrorism in the state must not be allowed to continue. Democracy is not about force and terrorism but persuasions and selling of ideas”.
“Today in Ejule Ofu LGA of Kogi State gunshots were freely fired and many people were injured and some killed. The news making round showed that those who are maiming and killing people in Kogi East are doing so to infuse fear and political timidity so that the people can follow one particular direction of political thinking”.
Recounting the position of the law and the import of freedom to make choices with regards to the cause of the gun shots which led to the needless death, he had stated that:
“The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guaranteed freedom of choice. Democracy is about majority. Democracy is about choices. Democracy is not about political despotism. The people who populate kogi East are the majority in Kogi State. Federal Government must wade into the killings and political hooliganism in Kogi State and kogi East in particular and these must be brought to an end without further delay”.
Pathetically, he stated that “Kogi people have suffered enough” and further enjoined that “No political ambitions of anybody should be promoted with the blood of our people” and invoked that, “Those who want to lead Kogi State must be told in clear terms that political gangsterism and barbaric behavior of intimidation of people and political opponents or supporters of political opponents are most primitive and heinous crimes against humanity”.
In stating the obligations of the federal government, he had condemned the silence of the Federal Government and stated that: “The silence of the Federal Government in the face of these unprovoked attacks of what the people clearly know are acts of state terrorism is most unacceptable to any right things people”. He hitherto calls on the Federal Government to act now.
Going down memory lane, the member of the Body of Benchers had recounted that in 2019, Mrs Salome Abu was burnt alive in her house for her political believe. Sadly, till date nothing has happen. The real perpetrators of that heinous crime are yet to be brought to book.
“Gunshots democracy was promoted in Kogi State in 2019 and foundations of violence installations of forced leadership is being laid for November 2023 election in Kogi State”. He had added and had concluded that the Federal Government and all security agencies must wake up to protect the people of Kogi State and Kogi East in particular….CONTINUE READING
