BREAKING: Police arrest 30-year-old man for setting suspected witch on fire in Bauchi

The Police in Bauchi State have arrested one Hamza Umar of Rafin Albasa area in the state metropolis for setting an alleged witch on fire, thereby attempting to commit culpable homicide. In a release by the Command PPRO, Ahmed Wakil and made available to journalists yesterday in Bauchi, said the police operatives attached to the Command acted on credible intelligence and arrested one Hamza Umar “M”aged 30yrs of Ra- fin Albasa area of Bauchi for causing grievous hurt and attempt to commit offence to-wit culpable homicide….CONTINUE READING>>>...CONTINUE READING

While narrating the incident, the accused, Hamza Umar, said the victim, Hafsat Bala, invaded his residence in Rafin Albasa area of Bauchi and walked round the premises and that when he asked her what brought her into his compound, the girl told him that she was sent by her eldest sister to come and kill him. Umar said he tried sending her away from his compound, but the victim resist- ed, claiming that she was asked to bury some charms at the corner of the house.

He added that he further asked the victim to remove what she claimed to have buried in his compound but she refused, so he became furious, poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze in his compound, claiming she was a witch. On receiving the information, a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) rushed to the scene and evacuated the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi for immediate medical attention. On the other hand, a discreet Investigation has been instituted to unravel the exact circumstances that led to the situation. Meanwhile, the suspect will be charged to court for the established offences upon completion of the investigation.

The Command warned that nobody has the right to treat a human being in such a barbaric manner and that it is wrong for anyone to assume the position of a law enforcement agency, adding that he should have taken the minor and handed her over to the police or any law enforcement agency saddled with the responsibility of investigation. In a related development, the Bauchi State Police Com- mand has arrested one Yu- suf Muhammed “m” aged 34yrs of No. 24 Rijiyan Zaki Kano State who allegedly wanted to run away with a Pontiac Vibe model, black in colour. According to the po- lice, on 16/06/2023 at about 0910hrs, a distress call was received from a good Sa- maritan from Muda Lawal market, Bauchi that on the same date at about 0905hrs a thief entered into a Pontiac Vibe motorcycle vehicle in an attempted steal it. On receiving the report, a team of police detectives attached to C Divisional Po- lice Headquarters, Bauchi arrived the scene where one Yusuf Muhammed “m” aged 34yrs of No. 24 Rijiyan Zaki Kano State was arrested and a vehicle with reg no.
