Buhari while receiving Bawa at the state house who presented him with a send forth souvenir as well as the presentation of the memento of the commission’s performance under his watch had pointedly asked Bawa, “What is happening with your investigation on the fraud that happened in the ministry of power?”
To which Bawa responded to saying that investigation is ongoing, and the outcome would soon be made public.
Recall that The Street Journal had exclusively reported how embattled former minister of power, Mamman Saleh and his cohorts used forged documents, signatures to loot over N340 billion from Ministry.
This newspaper had reported that the magnitude of the fraud is such that it indicted four former ministers of power, six retired permanent secretaries, a director of finance, some directors of powers, a retired director of Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP and a retired director in the ministry of finance, all of whom are in EFCC custody.
This is in addition to a Director, Finance in Ministry of Power; the Permanent Secretary in the ministry and other top ministry officials , all currently cooling their heels in EFCC custody over the controversial $5.8 billion Mambilla Hydro Electric Power project contract to Sunrise Power.
Buhari’s question to Bawa further reiterates his zero tolerance for corruption and his intention to leave a legacy of accountability as he leaves on May 29, by making sure everyone who worked under his administration and is liable for fraud gives account of their time while in office.
