Improper Dressing: NYSC DG Orders Security Agencies To Arrest Defaulting Corps Members

General Ahmed disclosed this on Friday while addressing the 2023 Batch A stream II Corps Members undergoing three-week orientation at the NYSC permanent orientation camp at the Old Macgregor College, Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

He said it was important that every Corps Member dress according to the scheme’s dressing code.

“When I was coming in, I saw a poster of Corps Members dress code; it is very important that you should start with it. I expect that every Corps Member should dress according to the dress code.

“I have already discussed it with all States Police Commissioners and I have directed the State Coordinators to liaise with all the State Commissioners in their State, any Corp member found dressed anyhow should be arrested,” he said.

The DG also admonished the Corps Members to sustain discipline and abide by the rules and regulations of the camp.

While Congratulating the Corps Members for the completion of their academic pursuit, Mr Ahmed explained that the purpose of the scheme was to further instill leadership virtues on them and urged them to avoid negative indulgences such as indecent dressing.

“There are guidelines, rules, and regulations and I will urge you, just the way you have started, to keep the momentum, remain disciplined, behave well, and I don’t expect anybody to be found wanting to the extent that the person would be decamped, ” he said.

While speaking, the Ebonyi State Coordinator of the Scheme, Mrs. Bamai Mercy, noted that a total of 1,029 Corps Members made up of 532 males and 497 females were inducted into the camp and had since coordinated themselves to adapt to the regimented nature of the camp.

She commended the Scheme’s Director-general for making out time off his busy schedule to visit the camp, even as she solicited for improved infrastructure in the camp.

She further called for the establishment of the State NYSC governing board as well as a functional local government committee.

“Most of the available vehicles are obsolete, we are spending a lot on repairs, the issue of electricity in the orientation camp is another challenge, there is no electricity supply to the camp, a lot of funds go into the purchase of diesel and petrol to run all the power generating set in the camp,” she explained…CONTINUE READING
