She revealed that she had full access to her fiance’s phone and had never felt the need to question his loyalty. However, curiosity got the better of her one day, leading her to peek into his text messages. To her dismay, she stumbled upon a conversation with a contact saved as ‘Tobi Plumber’.

The message her fiancè sent to the contact contained affectionate text leading her to believe that her fiance was involved with someone else. The discovery has left her hurt, betrayed, and questioning the foundation of their relationship.

“My husband-to-be always told me how much he hated cheating and even vowed never to cheat on me with another lady. Gradually, I began to trust him and he never gave me reasons not to trust him. I know the password to his phones and even his debit cards. He never hid anything from me. I could boldly say that I knew him like the back of my palm because he informed me about every of his movement. So, I knew when he closed from work and what he might be doing at a particular time of the day.

“Often, whenever I was in the midst of my friends and we discussed guys and their infidelity, I always told them my guy was different. I would say he didn’t have time to chase girls. He made me trust him because he was a serious-minded person and I never caught him cheating on me. I always have access to his phone. So, that particular day, by reflex action, I peeped into his text box – something I rarely did – whenever I held his phone. I usually like taking pictures, because I wanted to occupy every space not only in his heart but also on his phone. But on that particular day, I went to his text messages, and I saw a message he sent to a number he saved with Tobi Plumber. In the message, he addressed the person as ‘baby’ and went ahead to tell the person the time they would meet.

“My woman instinct told me he was addressing a woman in that message. I copied the number to my phone. Already I was shaking with rage. I wanted to get more evidence before confronting him. I called the number and it was a lady that picked it up. I lost control and began to shout and threaten the lady, the lady insulted me in return. Then I asked my guy about the person he saved as Tobi Plumber, and why he sent such a message to the person. He denied it, he said the person was his friend and he contacted him through his wife’s phone number. He is a pathetic liar. We ended up fighting and I couldn’t take it that he was cheating on me, so I called off the engagement. Was I irrational?

Dear Lola, you reacted on an impulse, which is understandable. But fighting the other lady when you have yet to establish her relationship with your fiance was what, I think, was irrational here. Another thing I think was irrational was calling off the engagement. I understand you had high expectations of him, but he was human and it’s in the nature of humans to make mistakes, and if you loved him, you would have to forgive him. The truth is, it is still unclear at this time who ‘Tobi Plumber’ is or the extent of their relationship. Since he denied having an affair with this lady, I think what you can do is trust him but pay more attention to his actions and not prolong the engagement period. Because he is not married to you yet and it could be he is keeping you until he finds someone to replace you.

In essence, it is right to be angry but you have to be careful with your actions. If you can, forgive him and go back to your love, but if you feel you can’t deal with it, then do what makes you happy. This story serves as a reminder that even the strongest relationships can face challenges, and it highlights the importance of open and honest communication.
