According to the commandant of the state command, Mr. Innocent Okolo, the Conference Committee was established to harmonize and reconcile clause 38 (1) of the version passed by the Senate, which conflicted with the version passed by the House of Representatives as contained under clause 38 (1).

He explained that the Senate version sought the dissolution of the existing Peace Corps of Nigeria and National Unity and Peace Corps, while the House of Representatives version solely recommended the transformation of Peace Corps of Nigeria into the Nigerian Peace Corps when assented to by the President.

He added that the approval of the report by both the Senate and the House of Representatives has brought every legislative process involved in the enactment of the bill to its logical conclusion. This, he said, cleared the way for the transmission of the bill to President Buhari for assent.

Commandant Okolo said that the state command is ready to hit the ground running when President Buhari assents to the bill. He added that the command has already started training and retraining staff and engaging state government officials while waiting for the bill to be legalized.
