According to CBS News, Jayana Webb fatally struck two state troopers and another individual on I-95 in South Philadelphia in March 2022. The deceased law enforcement officials, identified as Branden Sisca and Martin Mack, were assisting a third individual when Webb struck and killed all of them.
Webb, who is currently pregnant, told the court she was indeed driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fatal incident. She was sentenced after she pleaded guilty to three counts of 3rd-degree murder and driving under the influence. The convicted woman will also not face trial due to the plea she entered.
“Today’s conviction of Jayana Webb is a just resolution of one of the most shocking incidents of vehicular violence in recent memory,” District Attorney Larry Krasner said in a statement.
“I want to thank ADA Jeffrey Hojnowski and our team in the Homicide/Non-Fatal Shootings Unit, along with the Pennsylvania State Police, for a skillful investigation and prosecution that avoided a jury trial, which would have undoubtedly been retraumatizing for the families of Trooper Mack, Trooper Sisca, and Mr. Oliveras. This matter will formally conclude next Tuesday when Ms. Webb is to turn herself in before the court. We will have more to share with the press and the public at that time.”
In the wake of the fatal incident, authorities said the deceased troopers had responded to the scene after authorities received a report of Oliveras walking on the passing lane of the highway. Webb allegedly struck and killed the three men while the law enforcement officials were leading Oliveras to their patrol car, FOX 29 reported.
The three victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said Webb’s blood alcohol content was over double the legal limit. And Webb, who was arrested in the aftermath of the incident, is said to have seemingly bragged about her drunk-driving prowess in a previous X (formerly Twitter) post.
“If you ask me, I’m the best drunk driver ever,” the January post read. Moments before the fatal crash, a law enforcement source told the news outlet that Webb’s vehicle had been pulled over by state police. But that traffic stop ended up being brief as troopers had to respond to calls about a civilian walking on the I-95.
“It is our prayer that at some point they get some peace and comfort. It is her prayer that at some point they can forgive her,” Webb’s attorney, Michael Walker, said. “She has always wanted to accept responsibility for the mistakes that she has made.”
Webb is currently under house arrest – an arrangement that will be maintained until she gives birth in February, CBS Newsreported. The judge, however, said Webb will start her prison sentence a few days after she gives birth.
